The Rainforest Ecolodge - Sinharaja

Great location in the wild. Cool, calm environment that lets you observe the rainforest right from your lodging. Food was okay but the hygiene could improve a lot. Cutlery and pottery weren't properly maintained. There's a lot to do with safaris to patna and treks into the rainforest which include many activities like bird watching, fish therapy, hill climbing etc. The rooms were good. Clean and and comfortable. There were some power cuts but otherwise it was great. The path to the location from Deniyaya is a steep upward climb on rough roads only traversable by SUVs, jeeps etc. It takes roughly 40 mins to 1 hour to complete the upward traverse to the location from Deniyaya.

The road to hotel is quite difficult and bumpy. Better to go there in a SUV rather than a car. Rooms are okay. View is excellent and the weather is so comfortable. Food is delicious. No buffet but the set menu is good. I prefer rice and curry over other food. You should go for the waterfall trekking through Sinharaja forest. The forest is quite calm and amazing. I recommend to stay at least two days there to feel the calmness and the soothing temperature of the surroundings. P.S - Do not forget to go for the fish therapy.

Overall the hotel experience is the best. If you are a nature lover this is a must visit. Hotel has arranged 04 different trekking with guides at a cost. (Nature/Waterfalls/Bird watching/Night) I got the chance to go for a waterfall trekking which is a great experience. Hotel is located near the Sinharaja World Heritage Rainforest. Rooms are clean and maintained but from the outside not that much of maintenance can be observed. Rooms don’t have TVs since all the rooms located near the forest and should keep our quietness at all times to no to disturb the nature. Music and singing is not entertained. At night the environment gets so cold but heaters are not provided. Staff is very friendly, their helpfulness is at the maximum level I think and they are very much attentive towards us. They are always taking care of us. Food is delicious and served fresh and there was no buffet available at the time. Since the hotel is located near the Sinharaja rainforest, road to hotel is a rough, narrow road with narrow bends, steep slopes and big patches on the road which should be accessed only by a 4X4/AWD vehicle with a good ground clearance. SUVs with two wheel drive only function will have a hard time going on the road since there are some spots that are really difficult to cross. If you are confident only drive your vehicle but should be a SUV with 4X4/AWD and good ground clearance. But if it is raining better to hire a vehicle at the beginning if the road or arrange a vehicle with the help of the hotel which is Rs. 8,000/- at this time (Jan 2024). If you hire a vehicle to reach the hotel your vehicle has ro be parked in the hotel approved parking where your vehicle will be safe as per the hotel.

Calm and beautiful place but disappointed with the service and the facilities. I have been to this place in first week of January 2024. The rooms were not seem to be like maintaining and specifically the washrooms. The door locks were broken. The food were the other big problem. We booked it for full board and since no buffet was there we had to choose the menu and the portions were really really small. Once we request food they told that if so we have to purchase it. For the dinner we purchased. Again for the breakfast they served 6 string hoppers per person which is unbelievable. When we request they told string hopper are finished. Even the English breakfast was also not sufficient for a toddler. This is inside Sinharaja forest and you don’t have any place to buy food also. Worst experience ever….
